Le Chant du Monde was exhibited for the first time in the United States in 1988 at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. This catalog cover for the Fine Arts Museums' show features a detail from the fifth panel in the tapestry, L'Homme en Gloire dans la Paix (Man in the Glory of Peace). The entire tapestry cycle is housed in the former Saint John's Hospital of Angers. Founded in the 12th century, the building served as a hospital for nearly 700 years. The tapestries of Le Chant du Monde are displayed in the vaulted hall of what was once the patients' ward. The Jean Lurçat Museum also has engravings, ceramics, and other tapestries by the artist. |
